Food Court Expedition

In the absence of Ellen, we’ve had to fend for ourselves and today, we ventured out to the Northwest Station (Ogilvy) Food Court this afternoon for lunch. It’s been awhile for some of us and even crazier, some TXIers have never been to the food court since joining Table XI. Yes, we’re absolutely spoiled w/great food at TXI, but truth be told, this is a gooood food court. There’s a Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Sbarro, Arbys, Jaffa Bagels, Soupbox, Panda Express, Cajun Grill, Corner Bakery (upstairs), Dunkin Donuts, Cinnabon, Jamba Juice, Ben and Jerrys and some more.

Mushroom and fontina filled scallion and wild rice crepes

wildricecrepes

Complex vegetarian – adapted from this Epicurious recipe.  The crepes were delicious but a bit temperamental – I had to thin the batter a bit as the wild rice made them a bit bulky at first.  I added shredded fontina cheese to the mushroom filling, and the roasted red pepper sauce had a bit of balsamic vinegar for an interesting counterpoint.

Served with asparagus in shallot-dill butter.

UPDATED: Embedding an image into Gmail

gmail

UPDATED

Ok, so google has stolen the thunder on my trick here as John pointed out and actually added image embedding as a function last night at around 10pm.

You can read more about it here.

Original Post

Gmail lacks this basic functionality – but with this simple little workaround you will be embedding images into gmail in no time.

  1. Click on the link in the top bar that says Documents (you may have to log into  Google Docs)
  2. Make a new document.
  3. Click on Insert and then Image – a window should appear that allows you to add an image from your computer or insert the url of your image – selected whichever method you need.
  4. Your photo is now in your Document.  Highlight it – copy it – and return to your gmail window.
  5. Paste it and enjoy.

Banh Mi; Spicy Napa Cabbage Slaw

banhmi

Love these fresh-tasting Vietnamese sandwiches, made with shredded poached chicken and pate,  quick-pickled mixed vegetables, lettuce, cilantro, and chile peppers.  Served with a cilantro-dressed slaw.

Butternut squash soup with star anise flavor; ginger-marinated shrimp

staranise

Subtle star anise is an unusual note in this soup, but I think it’s a good match with the fresh ginger flavor of the shrimp.  Another healthy bowl!

Crusty bread and champagne vinaigrette salad accompanied.

Ragout of Cannellini Beans and Mixed Greens

cannellinikaleragout

Health in a bowl – totally vegan (until the cheese goes on) stew made from kale, mustard greens, cannellini beans, ditalini, tomatoes, onions, garlic, spices, and vegetable broth.

A crisp romaine salad with yet another variation of lemon-parmesan dressing (’cause y’all like it so much) accompanied.
